Impulsive! Revolutionary Jazz review

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 3 January 2012 01:27 (A review of Impulsive! Revolutionary Jazz)

A fairly descent release of remimxed and reworked jazz tracks. My problem with some of these "remixes" is that they are not jazzy enough. Example would be tracks from Prefuse 73 and Kid Koala. They are good tracks on their own but they could have been placed on any of their original releases and I wouldn't have known the difference. They are some strong track here, like "Sa-Ra CP" remix of Russell's 'A Helluva Town'. This track is still as bump'n as the original. My favorite track is not even a remix but more of an update; "At Night" by Ravi Coltrane gets a new sound from the original poem written by John Coltrane and this version is simply perfect. I love it. Then of course you have the original tracks, which like me, if youโ€™re a jazz lover, is worth the price of admission anyway.

Escape to Venus (Perry Rhodan) review

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 2 January 2012 05:16 (A review of Escape to Venus (Perry Rhodan))

This book was awesome. Awesome in a mental funny way. First off, this author didn't know much about Venus because, according to him, the atmosphere is breathable, the temprature is only +45 celcius, and worst of all he has trees growing on Venus....haha. Anyway, I realize it's sci-fi but still, come on! Another funny thing is there is a little beaver creature named Pucky...lol!

The Light At The End Of The Universe review

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 2 January 2012 05:15 (A review of The Light At The End Of The Universe)

I've read a few author compilations before and this one is pretty average. Some stories in here aren't really Sci-fi as well. What I do love about this book is before each story Terry talks a bit about how he came to write the story and it really gives a lot of insight as to what a writer goes through during his career. I also love some of his points of views on certain topics, especially when it comes to time travel. Very cool!

When Worlds Collide review

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 2 January 2012 05:14 (A review of When Worlds Collide)

I can see why this book is so popular. The ideas presented are astounding and for its time and they're pretty interesting too, even now-a-days. I can imagine what people must of wondered about after reading this book back in the 30's. Very well written and I'm recommending it to every sci-fi fan I know. True classic!

Cthulhu's Reign review

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 2 January 2012 05:12 (A review of Cthulhu's Reign)

This book is like most horror collections. There's some good and there's some not so good. Saying that I wasn't really disappointed with any of the story's in here. Some were just a bit boring, and some of them were just flippn' odd, even for a book about Cthulhu. The idea behind this collection is Cthulhu in present day or the future. I don't care much about all the scientific talk in some of the stories as it's takes away a bit of the mystery behind it. Even though it's not a 5/5 book I would recommend it to any one that is a fan of the Cthulhu Mythos mainly because all the stories were published in 2010 so it's a fresh new look at the old ones.

From Below review

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 2 January 2012 05:11 (A review of From Below)

**spoiler alert** This book would make a cool B-Movie, which isn't saying much. The problem with this novel is pretty much the way it's writen. Leeches kill someone, people investigate, leeches kill again, people investigate again, and so on and so on. It goes on like that for 300 pages. The ending of it was very disappointing too. You read for 340 pages just to have the story end in only 2 pages. All the leeches burn in a fire, the end. Arg. Another odd thing about this book is the woman in here all seem to orgasm very easily too. I will say that this book was writen well, in the fact that it was a good page turner, just the overall plot was weak.

The Golden Apples of the Sun review

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 2 January 2012 05:10 (A review of The Golden Apples of the Sun)

Because this book is a collection of short stories I have to rate this based on how many I liked and unfortunately there was only about four that I thought were good. Some left me scratching my head wondering if pages were missing. I like Bradbury but most of the short stories in this collection were pretty weak. I was trying to put myself in the 50's while reading this and I still don't think I would have liked some of them. I will say though that the short story "The Murderer" was awesome and very prophetic indeed!

The Warnings review

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 2 January 2012 05:09 (A review of The Warnings)

This was a fairly good book. I probably would have enjoyed it more if I was 10 years younger, as it is geared towards young adult or teen, but it was a good story. I didn't much like the ending but it was an ending that was different than the norm so that's a plus. Overall I would find myself easily recommending this book to people under 20 for sure. It's a quick read and has some good moments.

Black Creek Crossing (Saul, John) review

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 2 January 2012 05:08 (A review of Black Creek Crossing (Saul, John))

**spoiler alert** Once again I am let down by Mr. Saul. He can write so well but he just ends the book as if he was in a rush the last three chapters. The fact that Angel and Seth just hang themselves after killing their parents, almost by accident, seems unbelievable... even for ficton. There were times I couldn't put this book down but it wasn't scary and it lost a star from me just because of the ending.

The Boats of the "Glen Carrig" review

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 2 January 2012 05:08 (A review of The Boats of the "Glen Carrig")

I got this book as a gift, along with The Night Land. I actually enjoyed The Boats of the Glen Carrig more, even though I was told The Night Land was his masterpiece. It was a shorter tale so there was less boring parts and I loved how quickly each chapter moved. It felt like each chapter was its own short story at times and there was some truly memorable scenes, like "The Weed Men" chapter. Scary looking things they sounded like. I was very impressed with this book and I highly recommend it if your a fan of Poe or Lovecraft.
