The Voice of the Night review

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 2 January 2012 05:07 (A review of The Voice of the Night)

Well I got this book for free and I'm glad I did because it wasn't all that great. I will admit that it was written very very well and the characters were brought up nicely but I was just left feeling like I wasted my whole time reading it when I got to the end. I would recommend it to people but I'll warn them first that the ending isn't what most people want...a surprise!

Johnny the Homicidal Maniac: Director's Cut review

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 2 January 2012 05:07 (A review of Johnny the Homicidal Maniac: Director's Cut)

This is some of the funniest comic material I've ever read, and the most depressing too. I laughed so much and it's because I understand the character. I don't know if that makes me a psycho or just sympathetic to poor Johnny. Either way, Jhonen Vasquez is a genius!

Hangman review

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 2 January 2012 05:06 (A review of Hangman)

I thought this book was trying to do two things at once; 1) Tell a story about a serial killer and 2) Give the readers a history lesson on Hanging. To me this didn't work and I found the story was written very oddly because of this. I think some of the scenes were written very well but the back cover says "This revivals Stephen King." and "Would make De Sade wince." Reading those made me laugh because I've read nearly all of De Sades works and I don't think he'd bother with a single page of this story. Even though I didn't like this book much I still wouldn't mind reading his other novels. The subject does interest me and I actually learned a thing or two from this book, even though I wasn't expecting to.

The Book of the Dead (Pendergast, Book 7) review

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 2 January 2012 05:06 (A review of The Book of the Dead (Pendergast, Book 7))

I don't read much fiction but this book truely was a page turner. This is the first book I've read by these two authors and even though I started with the thrid book in this series I wasn't lost or confused, like some people have said in other reviews. Reading this third novel just makes me want to read the other two now. And after reading the final two words spoken by Constance I have to read The Wheel of Darkness now! There was so much in this book and it was writen so well I know I'll remember it for a long while. Any book that leave memory burn with me gets a 5/5 for sure.

Serpent: A Novel from the NUMA Files review

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 2 January 2012 05:05 (A review of Serpent: A Novel from the NUMA Files)

Probably the worst Cussler book I'll ever read, from what I hear, and so far it is the worst I've read. The plot is awesome and very detailed but the story moves slow and a few times he even insults the readers intelligence. I know it was writen in 1999 but I know what a Hovercraft is Clive and I knew then too...shesh! I didn't find the ending that exciting either and I would suggest that people only read this book if they are fans of Cussler. I would never let a new reader have this as thier first ever Cussler read. Overall it was ok but there's just too much garbage that didn't need to be in here. It actually would have been an awesome book if it was say 150-200 pages shorter.

The Princess Bride: S. Morgenstern's Classic Tale of True Love and High Adventure: The "Good Parts" Version, Abridged review

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 2 January 2012 05:04 (A review of The Princess Bride: S. Morgenstern's Classic Tale of True Love and High Adventure: The "Good Parts" Version, Abridged)

For me, this is one of those rare cases where I enjoy both the book and the movie. The Princess Bride is such an engaging story and the development of each character is mind blowing. There are times when the book can get a bit tiresome but it is made up quickly by good pacing. I was totally shocked by the ending as well because I grew up on the movie and I thought the story just ended happy, well, it doesn't.

Impact review

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 2 January 2012 05:04 (A review of Impact)

**spoiler alert** So far this is the best story I've read from Preston but I will say that it has it's flaws and I can see why some people don't like it. It seems like there's 100 pages he could have cut out that didn't need to be in the plot to make it better. I'm mostly talking about the two girls trying to get away from a killer. It didn't advance the plot and I was finding myself wanting to just skip those parts. Aside from that I loved this book. The ending was clever and seeing as how I'm a space nut I loved the idea of an ancient weapon on another planet, like Total Recall I guess.

Brimstone (Pendergast, Book 5) review

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 2 January 2012 05:02 (A review of Brimstone (Pendergast, Book 5))

This was a pretty good book. Lots of action and thrills. I would have given it a 5/5 if it wasn't for the pointless chapters involving the religious nut Buck. Nothing in the end happens with him so what's the point of him being in the story, other than to give Hayward something to do I guess. Oh well, overall it was an excellent read and I can't wait to read the next one from these two guys.

Dragon review

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 2 January 2012 05:02 (A review of Dragon)

This is my first Dirk Pitt read and I pretty much got what I expected. A good story that was 200 pages too long, it's fast paced reading, the ending was good, and I found Dirk Pitt to be almost too much of a super hero. I mean the guy is more impressive than Batman and I find it hard to believe that he could do all of things he did, even for a fictional story. I do want to read more from Cussler but I'm not much of a sea hand and I find nearly all his books are in or around water. I would recommend this one to anyone that is a fan of Preston, Child, and Clancy but I probably won't go out of my way to buy one of this guys books...unless it's on sale.

Temple review

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 2 January 2012 05:01 (A review of Temple)

I really tried to finish this book but after 60% in I just couldn't read it anymore. I'm not sure what age group it's meant to be for because at times I felt like it was written for teenagers, while other times it was the standard adult ficton thriller I'm use to. The main problem I find is how it's written. The flow is all over the place, the direction is predictable, and the whole fight with the cats felt like it was going on for 100 pages... wait, I think it did! He has this way of sucking me into and idea or action sequence and by the time I'm 2-3 pages in I already don't care anymore because he has pages breaks up the wazoo and starts and stops with so much BS in between. It's hard to explain but I've never read a novel written like this one was before. Anyway, this is my first read from this author and it wasn't a good experience. If I was 15 I think I would have liked it more.
