Creepshow review

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 9 January 2012 11:37 (A review of Creepshow)

I don't own to many soundtracks but I've always wanted this one because I love the movie and I love 80's horror music. This is the CD with the bonus tracks from three other films and although they are ok I actually would have preferred if it was just the Creepshow tunes. The insert is great and has interviews from John Harrison and George A. Romero talking about the music. Good stuff!

The Final Temptations review

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 9 January 2012 08:34 (A review of The Final Temptations)

Being a noise / industrial / hardcore / heavy-beat driven fan of music, and owning a lot of CD’s from that style, I’ll say that this is right up there with bands like Converter, Terrorfakt, and S.i.n.a (minus the lyrics and hot German chick). This is a full CDr and I would have paid the HMV price for this one.

Noise usually begins the track then the build up of hard pounding beats begin, and these aren’t just mindless techno drums either, there is purpose with these beats and they don’t feel repetitive at all. In short, I don’t get bored listening to any of these tracks. To note: Track #2 (Polarity Shift), Track #3 (Enamoured Lover), Track #6 (Happy Kitties) and Track #13 (Life’s Glow Fading) are true kickers on this CDr and would have made great 7" singles on labels like D-Trash Records. The thing I like most about AIM’s style is his way that he builds up tracks and stays with it. He knows how to make music, it’s as simple as that, yet he uses noise blasts and distortion to his advantage giving us hard-heads something we all crave and a good excuse to raise hell when were done listening to it.

Something to note about AIM is a release by sLaYv AxiS - "Remixez V.1", which features remixes by Panzerdivision, Terrorfakt, and himself, to name a few. Good show. If you feel you’re the type that likes hardcore beat driven noise, and not the flower-shop Merzbeat crap, then pick this up. You’re bound to like at least half the CD, if not all.

Dr. Phil review

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 9 January 2012 04:36 (A review of Dr. Phil)

Just recently I caught this show and this is what the "Doctor" had to say to a woman that was making fun of her sister because she was fat. "You make fun of her because she's big? Well I say you have a big mouth!" Wow, such wit Dr. Phil!!! This guy is the worst show on TV and has been for... omg... 10 years now!!!

Skull & Crossbones review

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 9 January 2012 01:52 (A review of Skull & Crossbones)

One of the first games I owned and played when I got my NES. I remember liking it so much that I started to design my own levels for it. They sucked of course but as a kid that means I couldn't get enough of this game. I've played it recently and it isn't as good as I remember it, simply because it's easy as hell! The sound effects I remember a ton too.

Construct/Destruct review

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 8 January 2012 10:10 (A review of Construct/Destruct)

Not some of his best works but I am a big fan of the 90's industrial sound. Artists like Leæther Strip and early :wumpscut: being big examples. After years of not getting this album I finally own it and I like it a lot. It has the very first SC song I ever heard, that being the Dive Remix of Better Off Dead. After I heard that track I really got into this artist. I probably won't buy anything older than this album of his but this was a good buy for $10...considering this import version I got sells for triple that online. I love used record stores that don't do their homework!

Hold It Against Me review

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 8 January 2012 10:07 (A review of Hold It Against Me)

So people like this track because she sounds like every other Dance-pop song out there and she uses a joke Will Smith said in Fresh Price of Bel Air during the course. I don't get it I guess and I'm glad I don't. I'm not saying she copied Will Smith but I'm referencing it because it's so damn old! Looks like she's back on top singing about sex again so I guess things never change....

Merzbuta review

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 8 January 2012 10:05 (A review of Merzbuta)

Not the greatest release Merzbow ever did. The good tracks are to short and longest track is the worst. But noise is subjective anyway. What is interesting in this release is that Merzbow used sounds from the last 3 releases on the Merzbox. "Space Mix Travelling Band", "Motorond", and "Annihiloscillator" sounds are all clearly heard throughout the loops of bleeps and drums. Would have been a great release if track 5 was longer and track 3 was shorter.

24 Hours - A Day of Seals review

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 8 January 2012 10:03 (A review of 24 Hours - A Day of Seals)

This one is hard to review because of its size and although a lot of this is pretty tame compared to his 90's material I do enjoy most of what I hear. This was one of the first Merzbow releases I had bought and I remember I didn't even own a credit card at the time so I had someone else buy it for me...ha. Ah well, fun times. Getting back to the noise, there are a lot of guitar sampled loops you'll hear during most of these tracks. They all work for the most part but for some tracks, like Walrus Band, they just go on forever and it pisses me off because I'd love that track if it was like 8 minutes or so. I can also say that I think Charcoal Gray Clouds sounds like a remix of a bunch of other tracks on this release. Maybe I'm hearing things but it sure sounds like it. This release does contain two of my favorite Merzbow tracks though, those being Mincle No Uta and the beautiful Child of Dream Sea. Great loops and I put those two tracks on my Top 10 compilation, which I listed here: 2011 Movies/ Music and Games.
Below is my rating per album:

Disc 1: 4/5
Disc 2: 3/5
Disc 3: 3/5
Disc 4: 3.5/5
Overall: 4/5

Frank Talk About Humans review

Posted : 12 years, 3 months ago on 8 January 2012 09:57 (A review of Frank Talk About Humans)

About the Record:

The long-witted battle against insanity had long since kept me coming over the hill for a long while. So as I would happen to have that night, I wore my long attractive coat with the big blue arms sawn off of them. As everybody has seen at their workplace before, an invader was destroying the day. And by that dilemma kept a source about it. As events differ, well, so do stories. Whether or not professionals could make proof about these legends, long horrific detail stories have been drawn out of significant and insignificant memories. Buy sometime on the rail. All well them, we proliferate announce you to welcome one of the oldest and only fact pamphlets available by the source of modern man. The one and only Men's Recovery Project.

[Source from the insert]
Insert also contains some lyrics, thank yous, and a mans penis.

Yeah, explains this album well. This is defiantly experimental music folks. Some tracks are sampled sounding noise rock but for the most part this album is just a hash and mash of odd electronic minglings going on. I've heard better but it is interesting to hear, especially for 1995, and if you know the label this was released on then this type of music shouldn't surprise you. Again, not the best but interesting indeed.
