Christine (Special Edition) review

Posted : 12 years, 4 months ago on 1 January 2012 12:34 (A review of Christine (Special Edition))

I'm a large fan of John Carpenter films, and his scores, and this movie is no exception. Even though it's totally different from the book I still like how he developed certain characters and I can see why he left out all the zombies from the novel as it would have made this movie well over 2 hours. The acting and transformation by Keith Gordon as Arnie Cunningham is my favourite part of the film and he does such a great job going from nerd to complete possessed psycho.

Another great thing about this movie is it has two soundtracks. There's the music from the 50's that Christine plays whenever her mood changes and then you have the score done by John Carpenter as well. I will admit that the score doesn't sound as great on CD, but I love what he did with it for the movie. Great atmosphere and I wouldn't call this a "horror" movie as it's more of a thriller and there really isn't any blood, except at the very end. Great movie overall and if they did remake this one I wouldn't mind seeing the zombie-Christine-victims in it, as it was in the novel.

Chasing Sleep review

Posted : 12 years, 4 months ago on 1 January 2012 12:32 (A review of Chasing Sleep)

This was an interesting film that is basicly about a guy who's wife has gone 'missing' and he can't figure out what happened to her. He also can't sleep and soon finds out that some of the things he is seeing and hearing may not be real. It's a slow movie and there is absolutely no music in it at all, outside a short piano piece. The fact that there is no music helps build up a lot of suspense and it works well for this type of movie. Jeff Daniels is great in this and it's one of more unique roles for sure. I can't rate this movie high because it does drag on a bit but I have watched it a number of times as the mood is pretty awesome and the director really gets the you into the movie with some of the camera shots.

The Brides of Dracula (1960) review

Posted : 12 years, 4 months ago on 1 January 2012 12:31 (A review of The Brides of Dracula (1960))

I wish I could have liked this film more. It's beautifully shot and the sets are awesome to look at but it's dreadfully boring and slow and when there is 'action' it's pretty lame. There isn't much blood and I don't think this is Peter Cushing's best performance by any means. It has some replay value but there's so much more I'd rather watch then this.

The Brain That Wouldn't Die review

Posted : 12 years, 4 months ago on 1 January 2012 12:31 (A review of The Brain That Wouldn't Die)

This is one of those movies that I don't like to much but it's a b-movie so I have to love it anyway. The idea behind it is laughable, but awesome. It was filmed in 1959 but not released until 1962, due to censorship, because it's just so damn hardcore!!! Watch this movie just for the cat fight. Yeah that's right. A cat fight between two tramps...classic! I don't like how the movie ends at all. The doctor is still alive and the beast runs out with a young unconcious woman in his arms, and that's it....THE END.

Brainscan review

Posted : 12 years, 4 months ago on 1 January 2012 12:30 (A review of Brainscan)

This movie was alright. I kinda grew up with it and I loved it as a kid so it's hard for to rate it badly. After just watching it again I 100% believe I would have given this a 4/5 if it wasn't for that lame ass character Trickster. He ruins the whole movie by adding his "comedy" to it and dancing around. Plus I can't stand his voice. I remember having a massive crush on the character Kimberly. She has this boy that lives across the street from her that she likes a lot and even when she knows he's turned into a serial killer she still says she loves him....as he's just about to kill her. Ahhh, true love at it's best. spoiler: click to read. Anyway, I like the musical score in this movie but not the songs that they play in it from artists like Primus.

Avatar review

Posted : 12 years, 4 months ago on 1 January 2012 12:29 (A review of Avatar)

I want to add that I knew this movie was going to be generic before I saw it but I got pushed into seeing it because it was a Plan B for my night out. The movie was great to look at but let's be honest, with $300,000,000 to make a CGI movie anyone could have made it look good. CGI is only going to get better too so in 5 years no one is going to give two shits about this movie. The 3D factor only made it worse I think. It didn't need to be in 3D and it didn't make me like it any better.

The bad things about this movie. 1) Boring plot that has been done a million times, even in reality. 2) Generic characters. I didn't really care about any of them and this makes me not care about the movie. 3) Boring music. Generic Hollywood score and that song at the end credits made me laugh...wtf was that?!

Ok, I could go on and on about how I've seen every single part of this movie in some other movie so I'll just end this rant now. A movie to see once but why would I need to see it again? No replay value at all!

August Underground (2001) review

Posted : 12 years, 4 months ago on 1 January 2012 12:29 (A review of August Underground (2001))

It's pretty bad when a b-movie fan, like myself, can't even finish a film because it sucks so bad. Thus is the case with this movie. The main problem with it is that you can tell they are trying to hard to be "extreme" and the characters are not believable at all, escpecially Kyle. The editing is retarded and the whole supermarket sceen is just a waste of time and completely unbelievable. Oh, and the hot party girls are just plain nasty to look at too. Not sure if that was their intent but these guys need to pick better chicks if your gonna have them take thier clothes off. In short, this movie is probably the worst one I've ever seen and even though I didn't finish it I was close, but that was all I could take.

Appointment with Death review

Posted : 12 years, 4 months ago on 1 January 2012 12:28 (A review of Appointment with Death)

Probably the worst of the Peter Ustinov Agatha Christie movies. Directed weird and the music sucks! There's a few plot holes as well. I won't go into any to not spoil the movie but the big one is; how would no one hear the woman scream? No one even mentions a woman screaming but they show you she did...very dumb. The ending is funny too. Hercule Poirot ruins a womans life and then right away gleefully enjoys fireworks without a care in the World.... until....

Alien 3 review

Posted : 12 years, 4 months ago on 1 January 2012 12:27 (A review of Alien 3)

I had this movie at a 2.5/5 until I saw the extended version and it was a lot better. There's an awesome opening sequence that shows a lot more of what the planet is like and there is a different ending as well, which I thought worked better. How the alien is born is totally different as well and I liked that better too. Seeing what David Fincher originally wanted the movie to be is interesting and the fact that he was rushed into this production with no script at all shows that he could come up with an at least watchable movie. A lot of people were pissed off at him for making this but after watching what went on behind the scenes, and even before he was hired, I give him credit for calming down the gong show that Fox had made out of this whole story.

What I would also wish to see is the original story that Vincent Ward had, which involved the prison monks on a type of wooden planet. It sounds odd but the story was pretty cool to hear. I recommend watching the extended version of this film, although long as hell, it's a lot better.
